I think their down registrations are a function of the economy, and  
internal problems.    Should we be mindful of this and be financially  
conservative where-ever possible?   Yes.   BUT WE SHOULD BE THAT WAY  
ANYWAY!

For me this is about daring to be great.   I think we are doing everybody  
a dis-service if we become content with standing still.   Richard Hipp  
came up to me with the kid-in-the-candy-store look after he spoke and  
couldn't stop telling me how fantastic this was, and how he was so much  
looking forward to bigger and better the next go around.   I think he  
speaks for most of our audience.   Last year was great for a first year,  
but mediocre when compared with similar events elsewhere in North  
America.    If we were happy with mediocrity, Tommy Bowden and Chan Gailey  
would still be gainfully employed, and we'd all be using Windows XP.    I,  
for one, am not content with mediocrity.

The Marriott is financially manageable, a logical leap forward in venue  
and accomodations, offers us the first real way to quantify our economic  
impact, and is in a city small enough where we have enough weight to get  
people all over the place (CVB, Herald Journal, etc) to jump on command...  
but isn't so small that there's an utter lack of accomodations.    We are  
only just now getting enough attention to get the "you're a dumbass if you  
come here" venues like Convention Centers to proactively seek us.   If we  
can lay down our economic impact in conise and accurate terms like we can  
at the Marriott, we'll be able to far better leverage against people....  
I'm talking about doing silent, sealed bid requests to every major hotel  
 from Columbia to Atlanta to Asheville to Raliegh.   How bad to you want  
what we can provide?   We cannot quantify our impact at UGAg or Clemson,  
and even if we could, it would be lessened by our ideal date being  
unavailable.
